Korean air fried chicken with soy garlic sauce

Korean fried chicken, or usually called chikin in Korea, is a very popular dish usually consumed as main meal, and even as after-meal snack. It is believed that fried chicken has started to be cooked in Korea (then Goryeo) since the 15th century while fried chicken that is served with special seasoning if soy sauce and vinegar has bee recorded in early Joseon dynasty (1392 – 1897).

The modern trend of eating chicken began in Korea during the late 1960s, when Myeongdong Yeongyang Center in Seoul began selling whole chicken roasted over an electric oven. These days, the popularity of korean fried chicken has expanded throughout the world with many Korean fried chicken chain restaurants making their presence in South East Asia, United States, China and Canada.

Preparation of the Korean fried chicken consists of 2 steps; frying the chicken and coating it with a special sauce thereafter. There are many varieties of sauces that could be used to coat the fried chicken, resulted in the many varieties of fried chicken. One of the most popular one is the soy garlic fried chicken.

As with conventional fried chicken, korean fried chicken can also be made using air fryer thus eliminating the need for large amount of oil for frying. Korean Air Fried Chicken

Ingredients :

800 g chicken wings & drummets

3 tbsp starch

1tsp garlic powder

1tsp onion powder

Soy garlic sauce :

3 tbsp brown sugar

4 tbsp low sodium soy sauce

1 tbsp vinegar

1 tbsp water

1 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions :

  1. Pre heat the airfryer at 200 deg C.

  2. Mix all of the fried chicken ingredients.

  3. Arrange the chicken in one single layer in the air fryer basket.

  4. Air fry for 15 mins, flip the chicken over.

  5. Air fry for another 15 mins.

  6. Mix all soy garlic sauce ingredients and bring to a boil while stirring constantly

  7. Pour the boiled sauce over the fried chicken

  8. Toss the chicken, making sure that all are evenly coated with the sauce.

  9. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on the chicken and serve.
