7 Mindset habits to adopt for success

byfluene

It is no secret that we must have the correct mindset to attain success. Most people however, may have a rock solid mindset or determination one day, only to slack or have it crumpled the next. What we need is a consistent and persistent way of thinking to help us through in our way to success. Mindset habit is the way of thinking that we manifest day after day and after some time, will help guide us through our daily lives without much thought or effort.

As much as mindset habits could help us in our way for success, it is equally beneficial that we teach our children such. Here are 7 mindset habits that could be adopted for success.

1. Lean into fear

Fear is a good thing. It tells us to be alert and beware of something, especially when we are venturing into an unknown territory. Fear tells us to be worry about the what ifs. What if it does not work out? What if I am not good at it? What if I get laughed at? What if my partner does not agree? When it comes to chasing our dreams, fear could be a powerful indicator of how much our dreams mean to us. It is a signal that we care enough to lose sleep over it. Usually, when we care for something, it means that it is important to us.

We do not fear those that are not important. Hence, when you have such feeling, embrace it. Investigate further to see if whatever it is that you fear is actually something worth trying.

2. Develop trust

To be successful, one has to trust oneself enough. Trust that you will take action. Trust that you will see to the end. Trust that you will put in your effort, rather than giving up at the first sign of struggle. Trust that you will be able to pick yourself up if you fail.

Self doubt will hold you back. However, when you trust yourself enough, only then whatever you have in mind or that you are planning will come to fruition.

3. Information is abundant

To be successful, we need to keep equipped ourselves with new knowledge. Fortunately, never before getting information is as easy as it is now. With the internet, information is abundant and at our fingertips. Whatever we want to know or learn, we will be able to get the information with just a click of the mouse. We just have to search it up and spend time reading or watching videos about it.

Do not sit around waiting for others to tell you what to do or how to do it. Being resourceful is a key to success. Similarly, there are many courses, paid or free, that we can sign up for to learn about whatever it is that interests us.

4. Avoid wasting rumination time

Rumination is a deep or considered thought about something. Often, we spent too much time thinking over things, of whether we should or should not do something. Whether that something is worth our effort. Unfortunately, too much precious time is wasted over rumination. By the time we made up our mind, the golden moment of starting something would have passed.

Venturing into something new without prior research is a recipe for disaster. We need to know and get enough information about whatever it is that we are planning to do. However, avoid wasting too much time in making a decision or thinking of the worst case scenario. Most of the time, people failed to start something as they focused too much on pessimism. However, it is equally hard to be an ultimate optimist. If you have not much experience in making informed decision, start small. Just keep showing up, instead of sinking deeper into the time wasting rumination.

5. No action, no result

Many people were all too eager writing down their goals and having a detailed timeline on when they are to achieve whatever it is they dream about. However, most people do not understand that having a plan is not the same as taking action. We can have fantastic dreams and goals. But none of it will come to fruition if we do not take action.

There is no magic pill or short cut to success. Results will come only with action. Therefore, start taking action and work on your goals. If you aspire to be a writer, take a writing course. Or if you dream of having a lean body, start working out and eat healthily. One cannot expect to be a couch potato and yet have a killer bod. We get what we put in.

6. Compete only with own self

Successful people understand that success is subjective to everyone. What look to be a failure to you may be a success to others. Do not compare yourself with others. Most often, we are too focused on competing with others and feel letdown or dejected when others seemed to be more successful than us. Success depends on many factors, such as early headstart, resources, hard work and to an unfair portion, luck. The social media these days are not giving us justice either. Everyone in the social media seemed to be living their dream lives. Some may be true. However, what we do not know is that majority of these pictures or videos of seemingly perfect lives are just props. When the camera is turned off, Cinderella is back to her cinders.

Each of us is living our own life. Self motivation and self satisfaction should come from within us, rather than from external factors. Therefore, compete with only ourselves, not others. Strive to be better than yourself yesterday. When you work on to improve yourself, success will come your way.

7. Excuses are …excuses!

Excuses are what people use to get out of their responsibilities. When we give excuses, we are just really blaming external factors to avoid facing the consequences of our actions. Some people blame the stars when they failed to achieve their goals. Some blame the alarm clock failing to go off thus making them late for that important interview. Successful people know that they can have excuses or they can have results. It really boils down to us, internally.
